115 YEARS OF KIRLOSKARVADI: A LEGACY OF INDUSTRIAL EXCELLENCE AND INNOVATION

The Kirloskarvadi plant has been home to several engineering firsts, setting benchmarks in industrial progress. From launching India’s first centrifugal pump to introducing India’s first electric motor, it has consistently led to technological advancements.

10th March, 2025, marked a historic milestone as Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) celebrated 115 years of Kirloskarvadi, one of India’s first industrial townships. Established in 1910 by the visionary Shri Laxmanrao Kirloskar, Kirloskarvadi has evolved from barren land into a thriving industrial and engineering hub, playing a key role in India’s manufacturing sector. This milestone is a testament to over a century of pioneering innovations, sustainability and contributions to nation-building.

Kirloskarvadi serves as the mother plant of the Kirloskar Group, encompassing everything from foundry and machining to assembly and testing of pumps.

Kirloskarvadi is also a leader in green manufacturing, demonstrating KBL’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Its 13.5 MWp solar project generates approximately 20 Million units of clean energy annually, substantially increasing its renewable energy usage from 25% to 75%. Additionally, the facility harnesses 4.5 MW of wind energy.

From a small factory shed in 1910, Kirloskarvadi has grown into the backbone of KBL’s global operations, with the Company now operating 17 manufacturing facilities worldwide. KBL’s evolution from being India’s leading pump manufacturer to a global leader in fluid management solutions is remarkable.

Demand for manufacturing energy efficient pumps

The small pump segment, which was strategically restructured in FY 2022-23 in response to the changing market situation and previous learnings, continues to report more achievements. With large-scale acceptance and a growing requirement for ‘energy saving products’, KBL’s energy-efficient pumps are more and more in demand.
